at http://www.ofsted.gov.uk/reports/index.cfm?fuseaction=summary&id=110428 16th July 2010 Newsletter No 6 – Summer Term 2010 Dear Parents, Hands Up Theatre Group – The children thoroughly enjoyed the “Weird and Wonderful Musical Instruments” show held on Monday 28th June where they learned how sound is produced from various families of instruments. The children were involved with the singing, dancing, marching and playing instruments which included the banjo, bass drum, jingle stick, pan pipes, tambourine and many more. Bee Talk – As part of our Science day, on Wednesday 7th July, the whole school enjoyed talks given by the Bee Association. The children learnt all about bees and all year groups enjoyed making honey and banana muffins as well as a variety of other activities. Year 2 Games – On Thursday 8th July, our Swallows class went with Mrs Barton and Mrs Evans to Holmer Green Secondary School to take part in the Year 2 games. There were children from Holmer Green, Little Kingshill and Lee Common School taking part in sports activities for the whole day. Lee Common achieved these special awards: Holly Jarvis - Gymnastics Amelia Murrell - Gymnastics Merryn Sutaria - Gymnastics Isabel May - Gymnastics Ella Gurney - Gymnastics and Orienteering Joe Richardson - Long Jump Felix McIntyre - Golf Lewis Connor - Golf Maximilien Buisson - Gymnastics, Jumps & Bounces and Orienteering Year 1 Mini Olympics – On Monday 12th July, Year 1 took part in a mini Olympics morning at Little Kingshill School. Activities included: rugby slalom, football, penalties, shuttle run, netball, egg & spoon, mini hurdles and long jump. The children enjoyed competing in mixed school groups and made lots of new friends. School Reports – Your child’s school report for this academic year has now been sent out. Please return your child’s report, either to your child’s class teacher or the school office, except Year 2 where we just require the report slip back – many thanks. Library Books/Reading Books – We have a few outstanding library books; please could these be returned to the school office before the end of term. We would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to Mrs Murrell, Mrs Buisson and Mrs Jones who have done a fantastic job running our library. Also, if there are any reading books at home we would be grateful if these could be returned too. Year 2 Leavers Assembly and Lunch – The Year 2 leaver’s assembly will be held on Tuesday 20th July at 09.30am at The Lee Church. Year 2 parents’ are welcome to join us and stay afterwards for tea & coffee. Afterwards the children will have their leaver’s lunch back at school. We would appreciate help walking the children to and from the church – please indicate on the reply slip below if you are able to hep us – thank you Shoe Boxes – Please could you save shoe boxes this summer and send them into school in September for various D.T. projects. PE Kit – If your child is leaving the school or has grown out of their current PE kit, please could you send any donations into school? They would be gratefully received – thank you. Telephone Tree – Is there anyone who would be able to take over the telephone tree from Mrs Jarvis who has done a wonderful job in the past of keeping this up to date? Currently the telephone tree is in a MS Excel format but could be changed if you do not use Excel. Mrs Jarvis would be able to hand over any changes and explain what it involves. Please contact either Mrs Jarvis direct or the school office. Car Parking – We have received a complaint regarding parking on the school zig zag lines. No one should park, obstruct or drop-off children outside the school gates. This rule applies to anyone dropping off or collecting children, be it parents, grandparents, nannies, child minders, au pairs or friends. Please could you make sure that anyone who collects your child is aware of these rules. They are put in place for the safety of our children and pedestrians. Thank you for your co-operation. End of Year Fun Morning – We have an end of school year fun morning planned on Wednesday 21st July with ‘Blaze’ disco and games. Children are welcome to wear mufti; no reading folders are needed. Cater Link – are looking for a General Assistant required at Great Missenden Primary School to help in the school kitchen from 1st September 2010. The hours are from 10.30am until 2pm, Monday to Friday (term time only). If you are interested please contact Lesley Stacey on 07918 138 333 or Great Missenden Primary School office on 01494 862310 by 21st July. Interviews will take place before 4th August. KidZone – are offering a two-for-one promotion for Lee Common families this summer; attached is a copy of the voucher required to claim the discount. Summer holidays are looming - It’s hard to believe that another summer holiday is on the horizon. For some families this can mean trying to find additional childcare while they are at work and for others it may just be trying to find something to entertain the whole family. The Buckinghamshire Family Information Service (BFIS) offers information, advice and assistance on finding childcare and has details on a wide range of activities for all ages across the county. The BFIS website allows you to search for childcare, family services or for everything in your postcode area (both childcare and family services). Please follow the link to the website www.bucksfamilyinfo.org and have a look at the information available. New registration forms are received every day so please remember to check the site regularly for new organisations and events. A reminder that Wednesday 1st September is INSET day; school reopens on Thursday 2nd September at 08:55am.
